Joćo Teixeira de Faria (called Joćo de Deus or John of god) is one of the best known healers in Brazil and said to be the most powerful medium alive at this time. I went to see him because a friend of a friend who I hardly know (I met her once) received a message for me that I should go see him immediately. Although this person had never heard of him, she received his name and a website of his in the message for me. That impressed me enough to go.
Joćo channels more than 30 entities including St. Ignatius who do the healings. Around 300 or so people pass before him each day at his compound hospital called Casa de Dom Inacio. Before the recession in Brazil there were up to 3000 per day. There are buses that bring people from all over Brazil.
I feel a definite shift in my energy and feel very well. Those of us who he has sit in the current rooms sit in meditation for two sessions of 3 hours each day. Here the entities send a vibrational current, using the music as a medium of delivery. I have very clear transcendent meditation experiences during this time. One of these current rooms is where Joćo sits when the people pass before him to get their (prescriptions). He does some of the surgeries here and some in the main hall.
I did not receive a "surgery"; he prescribed for me the 3-candle ritual, 3 crystal baths, meditation in the entity current room and herbs. The crystal bath is a process where you lay on an exam table and a mechanism containing 7 long pointing crystals are arranged above you so that each crystal is aimed at a chakra. I assume they are delivering a current through the crystals, although I did not really feel anything. He did a special ritual for me where he burned 3 meter-high candles at two in the morning. It is a ritual that few people get from him. Martin, the translator, says he knows of one woman who received it and he said her life changed totally after for the better.
People who get surgery get either actual surgery some procedure takes place, or energetic surgery. If they elect actual surgery, there are several typical procedures that I witnessed. He may cut them open with a scalpel and sometimes pulls a tumor out. They are usually standing and it looks like he puts them in a trance by passing his hand in front of their face. They do not scream in pain even though there is no anesthesia. He then will often sew the wound with a couple of loose stitches. In another common procedure he shoves a long metal apparatus up their nose and twists it. Apparently there is no pain and no infection. There is blood, but much less then there should be with all of these procedures.
This is primarily a Catholic/spiritualist tradition. They say a lot of prayers to Jesus and Mary but are open to all traditions. The Dalai Lama was here to visit and left some prayer flags and as a commendation for Joćo's work that are framed on the wall. His entities approved of the mystical practices I am involved in personally even though they are Mexican/indigenous based.
The results seem to be mixed. Some people stay a long time. Some have instant results and some have no apparent results. Some improve slowly. There are a lot of people here with terminal cancer and aids etc. One woman staying at my guesthouse has come twice. She says her cancer has left her brain completely since she came the first time but is still in her body. She looks great and I suppose it is amazing that she is not dead. Some people who were cured stayed on or returned and now they work here.
I met Robson the first day and he led me to the guesthouse. He said he was banned from the casa grounds. Later I found out it is because he recruits people who came to see Joćo to do Ayahuasca ceremonies with his church. Joćo doesn't like to mix the energies of what he is doing with doing Ayahuasca, a strong purger and hallucinogen. Robson told me that his son was cured of HIV virus here. He said that his son lived in the US and was dying of Aids. Robson suggested he come to see Joćo. His son spent two months going to the casa. At the end of that time he did an Ayahuasca ceremony and (saw) giant insects crawling out of his body. After that he was well though he never took medicine again and when he went to the clinic they found no trace of the virus. Robson said about 35 people have been cured of Aids at the sanctuary. I found him a believable witness since he certainly had no personal reason to promote the place.
Some people who promote there own group trips to see Joćo have exaggerated the results and call him a "miracle man". He is not happy about that. He says healing generally takes time. Also some people are at the beginning of their healing process when they come and some people have already done a lot on their own are near the end when they come so this will affect the outcome.
I am away at a hot springs resort for three days. It is good to be alone and soak in the mineral baths. It is very difficult to find internet access here. They are not into it like in other countries and there are very few foreign visitors. Soccer is their main obsession.
It is very inexpensive here. The most expensive guesthouse in town is $16 per day for room and board.

I am in a gold rush town of Ouro Preto (black gold)in central Brazil -- a pretty town with lots of baroque style churches. I left the sanctuary of Joćo de Dios two days ago. The experience was very good for me. I did a lot of meditation and easily moved into the configuration of forces I work with and was almost constantly channeling beautiful automatic hand forms.
I heard some very interesting stories of healings there. One women had spinal cancer and when on vacation in Brazil someone took her to see him. She did not believe in it and did not feel anything special when he did the non-visible operation. She stayed for only two days and basically thought it was a waste of time, but on returning to New Zealand, she started feeling odd sensations in her spine. Within one year she was completely free of spinal cancer. This shows that whether people are healed or not does not have to do with their belief system. I believe it has more to do with how locked the patterns are in their energy bodies. If these patterns are too solidified, they won't shift and won't heal. Sometimes Joćo tells people he cannot help them.
Another man here had a tumor in his aorta that was blocking the blood flow by 30%. Doctors did not recommend surgery for him so he came here. He also did not notice anything particular special, but with one year, his tumor was also gone.
I saw one woman with a terribly twisted body leave her wheelchair when she past him and walk out. Granted she wasn't walking straight, but she was walking and her husband was crying with joy so apparently this was a major event for her.
The most amazing thing I witnessed is that procedure where he sticks these 6" calipers all the way up patient's noses and twists. I talked to two visiting physicians about this. One is a doctor from Toronto and the other from Scotland. They both witnessed this and other procedures at close range and they both told me on separate occasions that this procedure should kill anyone instantly and the amount of blood should be many times more than there is. But it not only doesn't kill them, they don't even cry out even though there is no anesthesia.
In fact the physicians told me that the blood from any of the incisions Joćo makes is almost nil compared to want it should be. They were incredulous and said they had no explanation for what they witnessed. One of the doctors received surgery himself the last session I was there.
I saw him work on a woman with breast cancer. He cut her breast and then had several doctors come and feel for a tumor. They did not find anything. I have a video of the operations that were done on the last three days that I was there. Not everyone seems to be helped. At least not in the time they are here, but who knows what happens later. There is an autistic boy whose family moved here to get help for him. In the two months or so that they have been here the boy isn't better and the parents have lost 25 pounds each because they don't like the food. They were thin to begin with.
The energy is so strong is hard to describe. The whole area is located crystal bedrock. In fact this area is one of the main crystal mining areas.
After the prior work Joćo did for me I still had dreams that indicated that I was not totally finished with my particular situation. Joćo checked on the situation and said that I needed to do more. So the last day I was there he had me hike down to a waterfall, do rituals and bathe in the waterfall, get dressed and go completely out of the area then back and repeat the whole process. I was alone and the experience was powerful for me. I got there at about 6:15 am and was under the waterfall for the first bath at about 6:30. When I left after the final time I noticed that my watch still said 6:30 even though it had not stopped running. I asked the taxi driver what time it was and he confirmed that it was past 7:00. My watch had no problems keeping accurate time before or since. It was as though I was in a time warp for the time I was doing the waterfall work. I take it as a good omen.
I met some fascinating people here including a women from Colorado who sees angels and other divine beings every day here as clearly as anything. This came up when I told her about the time I was visited in my late 20's by divine, translucent presence who blessed me. She is very outgoing, humble and clearly not mentally unbalanced in any way, so I believe her.
The spiritualist moment in the 1800's had a profound effect on the spiritual traditions in Brazil. In particular the written work of Allan Kardec, a French scientist who studied mediumship and lived in Brazil for some time. The basic idea is that we have dozens of spirits around us all the time. Some want to help us, some would like to hinder or harm us, and some are may want to play jokes on us. All our thoughts and works are not our own but some are from these spirits. Black magic works by sending malevolent spirits to mess with a person's life and mind. I met one women who had been cursed. She was a beautiful woman and had been a successful actress. After the curse she could not find any work at all. She was informed that a spirit had been "attached" to her that made people feel that she was a prostitute. Joćo did something to remove the curse.
This is a good place for a spiritual retreat even if there were no miracle healings. It amazes me how strong the meditations can be even though most of the music is rather corny Portuguese folk devotional music.
