"SEEING GOLDEN" -- SEEING FROM A RESONATE VIEW

By Yari

At some point in my process I was able to make a major shift in consciousness. I can say it almost happened at a precise moment, in Thailand, in June of 1999. This shift has allowed me to experience a state of consciousness without fear, depression, boredom, loneliness or any of those feelings that lead to questioning the meaning of life. I was given a key so I could experience the extraordinary flow of energy through life, which left me in a state of wonder and appreciation of life. I cannot label the resulting feelings as happiness, bliss, contentment, joy, sense of the divine or sublime, although it certainly contains all those states. There is not a specific word that I feel accurately expresses it. Perhaps it is best left unlabeled. What is extraordinary for me is that I am still able to shift to this "Resonate View" even when my life situations are extremely difficult.

To give a sense of what it is like, I can say it is almost as though you are snorkeling in the most pristine waters, viewing awesome beauty, but instead of breathing air through your snorkel, you are breathing in the exhalations of "the gods." But the gods don't breathe out CO2 like we do, they breathe out something magnificent; something like radiant gold dust that sings. And this is what you are breathing in. It fills your soul (for those who believe you have one) and expands all the way to your head and beyond. It is your link to all that is divine and it turns your eyesight golden. That's the best way I can describe it. And from then on you perceive differently. You have achieved the Resonate View. You “see golden”. You have effectively turned your radio (yourself) to station named Resonate View--my metaphor for achieving the state I am describing.

I like to use the analogy of a radio station because that is the best one I can think of. All emotions and states are just frequencies of energy and we have the intrinsic ability to turn from one state to the other. Most people don't believe they can do this, they don't even consider it. But it is not really so difficult. The ability to do this only demands that you are flexible enough in your energy body.

For example you can try a practice where you put yourself into a series of emotional states. Try to put them in order from most despondent to most ecstatic. Decide in advance what they will be, write them down and then practice shifting yourself from one emotional state to another. Do this practice every day until you are really good at it. It is something like moving the dial on your radio to change the station. Usually people don't realize they can move the dial. They think they are stuck with the channel that they received through "fate" or "conditioning". It's as though someone hates country western music but they keep the channel tuned to the Country western channel anyway. The music they hate is always playing in the background of whatever else is going making them miserable, and they have not even considered that they can change the channel.

People have all sorts of excuses why they cannot change the miserable channel they are stuck on. Typical excuses might be:

I am too fat, too poor, or too whatever.
My father wasn't affectionate enough.
I am not good at anything.
My father was too affectionate.
I was raped or assaulted.
My family was dysfunctional.
My boss is a tyrant.
I lost all my money in the stock market.
These are all good reasons, but not good enough reasons to live in misery. What do any of these excuses to suffer have to do with turning the radio channel to another station? Nothing. You are not stuck listening to country western music just because you are poor, or because your girlfriend left you. There is just no relationship.

When I was in India I spent 3 months in Dharamsala and for the first time in my life I saw lepers. Their fingers and toes had rotted away and they could do nothing but beg. But some of these people were very happy. Not just happy--there was something truly radiant and playful in their energy bodies. Seeing this caused me to really understand that happiness does not have to be conditional on circumstances. Of course I had heard this, and believed it in theory, but seeing the reality of some of these lepers proved the theory for me. I honestly believe that some of these lepers are happier than some very successful people I know who live in classy homes.

The Tibetans require a 3-year+3 month+3 day retreat as one of the requirements for a monk to receive the title of Lama. Some of these retreats are more rigorous than others. At one of the monasteries I visited, doing a three-year retreat means you are put in a small dingy room and you do not go out for the entire period. You get food passed to you by the only person you will see during your retreat. This person checks in now and then to make sure you have not gone insane--which does happen on occasion. In this 3+ years solitary confinement, you will either figure out how to change "the channel" from the channel of despair and boredom to the channel of acceptance and bliss, or you will go mad. There is no other option. The point is that the ability to experience preferable states of consciousness is not dependent on your location or condition.

When I was in my late teens and early twenties I was miserable. I was poor, terrified, and extremely unhappy. I had nightmares every night where I was chased. Those in this less desirable condition are obsessed with everything that is "wrong" with them and usually go from bad to worse. The point is that the people who spiral down in this manner, spiral down because they didn't learn to change the channel. I learned how--that is why I know it can be done.

No one said we live in a paradise world. I have seen some paradise worlds and believe me this is not one of them. We live in a world where anything or anyone can be prey to something or someone else--where people act according to their feelings which are all too often feelings of greed, resentment, fear, self-pity, arrogance and all those other not-nice feelings people indulge themselves in. Recently a young woman told me she does not believe in evil. I asked her what planet she lives on. Getting enjoyment out of doing harm to others is evil.

But whatever evil is happening doesn't need to affect you as much if you are able to turn to the "channel of choice". If you can do this, you have joined the realm of what is sometimes termed the "state of grace". It is yours for the taking--or should I say yours if you change the channel--your channel. Consider this: You agree that you can drive and listen to music at the same time right? And you agree that you can feel bad and listen to music at the same time right? And you agree that you can feel good and listen to music at the same time right? Well you can also feel bad and feel good at the same time. You can feel more than one emotion at the same time. We are all human. If something bad happens to you, or to someone you love, you are going to feel bad unless you are a robot. But the trick is that after you have mastered what I have described here, you can be in an exalted state at the same time that you are feeling bad.

Somehow we got the idea that we can only feel one emotion at a time, but this is not true. And why would you want to be able to master this ability of experiencing more than one emotional state at a time? Because if you just feel bad without the good part, you can quickly fall into feeling retched, despondent, and cycle down from there.

If you practice as I described, even if you don't reach the state I described, at least you can feel "somewhat good" at the same time you feel bad. Everyone has felt really good at some time or another so you can master feeling good as your "base channel". Any emotional state you have ever experienced is theoretically accessible to you at any time. If you have been there before, your body and mind knows how to go there. It is just a matter of remembering.

It takes practice, like learning to play an instrument, but you can do it. If you had never seen anyone play a keyboard instrument before, you would have a hard time believing that it is possible to play something totally different with the right hand than with the left hand, at the same time, but of course you can.
